Let’s Talk Turkey
All it takes to cook a praiseworthy bird is a roasting pan and rack, a few ingredients, a preheated oven and the star – a 10- to 16-pound turkey. You can do this!
For most of us, it’s hard to imagine the holidays without turkey. But for novice cooks, it can feel intimidating choosing a bird and cooking it. These days there are a few ways to prepare a holiday turkey, like roasting, deep frying and even grilling. To keep it simple, let’s talk about the easiest method of cooking a turkey – roasting. So how do you get started?
After you bring home your turkey, immediately put it in the refrigerator. If it’s frozen, allow a few days for it to thaw in the fridge, following label directions. When your turkey is thawed, remove the giblets and neck from the cavity or under the neck flap. Rinse your turkey inside and out and pat dry. If you want crispier skin, leave uncovered in a large pan in the fridge overnight to dry out the skin.
