At Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, we value our customers. In the Pharmacy, that means that we’ve always taken extra steps to maintain the confidentiality of your medical information.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) creates standards to protect medical records and other personal health information. As a retailer with pharmacies, Raley’s was in full compliance with the law by the April 2003 deadline.
Raley’s has been proactive in meeting this privacy rule – keeping our customers in mind. We always safeguard your medical information. Our pharmacy professionals and many store employees were given additional training about the importance of protecting your privacy.
As a customer, you won’t see many changes. You’ll still order and pick up your prescriptions the way you’ve always done. When you visit our pharmacies, you will be greeted with the same professional service and given a privacy notice explaining your rights under this new rule. You will be asked to sign an acknowledgement so we know that you have received this notice.

What is HIPAA?
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is a federal law that creates standards to protect medical records and other personal health information. HIPAA, as it is called, sets standards for the use and release of health records and limits the release of personal health information.
How will this new rule affect service I receive at my pharmacy?
It will be business as usual. When you pick up your first prescription on or after April 14, 2003, you will be given the privacy notice that is required by law. You will be simply asked to read and sign an acknowledgement so we know that you received our privacy notice.
May my doctor still call or fax a prescription to my pharmacy?
Yes. Your doctor may call or fax a prescription because the pharmacist is using the health information for treatment purposes.
May my pharmacist continue to consult with me about my prescriptions?
Yes. Your pharmacist can continue to provide the same professional consultation about your prescriptions at the pharmacy counter or over the phone.
